Unfortunately this picture was taken with my phone through the frame… so the tones and sharpness will be a bit out. It’s now happily at it’s new owner house in a different city, so might be a while till I can get any better image of it! Not ideal I know but needs must when working on the go.
This ones not a bran new wee sketch
Work in process
I was and still am so excited about this paper. Shall be purchasing more shortly.
On saturday I do believe it’ll be time for some portrait work of a friend which I am also very excited about.
I bumped into some of the guys from the homeless shelter last night. They were sober and on good form. It was very good to see them. We spoke about Kamil dying. Perhaps the shake from that might give them an opportunity to make change happen in their own lives.

This has been a tricky one to scan well.

We see signs of the little beast but to be honest I’m not sure I’ve ever seen one myself. In truth I’m not sure how little would feel if I were to be faced with one. Badgers were much larger than I expected. This work may not be finished. As with the badgers I’m not yet comfortable with it.
In the last two years I have seen more badgers than in my whole life previous.
It began with a rather large badger that a friend hit with the car on back roads. We came round a smooth bend and drove over the thing at about 50mph. First the front wheels bounced up my friend and his brother, then I by the back ones. Shocked we stopped and looked back at the thing. The large bulk was motionless with it’s paws in the air. After a short while of staring at it, stunned, willing it to move, the brother began to show his stress at the situation so we left and took him home.
To myself through the noise my friend’s brother made I began to pray and to command life into the badger. And why not?
We dropped him home then drove back to the site. It didn’t take long, ten minutes perhaps. We parked and walked our way along the road finding no badger. This was puzzling and it has a few explanations.
A- By the grace of God the curse of death was lifted from the badger and it trotted off alive and well.
B- A taxidermy opportunist drove past shortly after us and decided that body was salvageable enough for their uses and so carried it off. (Note. As far as I understand the law it would have been illegal for us to pick up the badger, but not for the car behind us to pick it up. This is to stop people purposely killing things on the road and taking them for their own uses.)
C- An oversized Common Buzzard or normal sized Eagle came past and carried it away.
D- It managed to survive both wheels at speed, the weight of the car and the weight of three fully sized adults. We checked the verges so it would need to have been well enough to climb a wall. After which it may have died from internal bleeding out of our sight.
I feel all four explanations are quite plausible. I am most partial to explanation A as it would give back the life we unintentionally cut short. After option A I’d prefer C then B and I’d be least satisfied with D. At the time I felt quite convinced that by the power of God’s Holy Spirit the badger had been raised to life. I’m not sure if I am less convinced of that now but I find I like the image of the bird flying off with the heavy badger or indeed the enthusiastic hobbyist hopping with gladness at such a find.
